All vehicle servicing is very important but there are some areas of a vehicle that are extremely important for reasons of safety and the prevention of substantial mechanical damage to your vehicle. These items include the following.

1. Frequent Brake Fluid Change.

The nature of brake fluid allows moisture from the air to permeate the fluid and substantially lower the boiling point of the fluid. The result of this is the brake fluid can vaporize as the brakes heat up and the brakes fail. This happens often and can result in a very severe accident.

2. Timing Belt Change.

Most modern cars employ a toothed rubber belt to drive the Camshafts. These belts are made from a rubber based composition material and gradually deteriorate due to the heat soak and general wear from engine running time. If one of these belts fails, significant engine damage occurs with repair costs running into thousands of dollars. These belts need to be changed regularly as per the manufacturer’s instructions which are usually between 50000km and 100000km.

3. Engine Coolant Change.

Engine coolant is critical to the longevity of any engine and must contain an anti corrosive additive so that the internals of the engine cooling system, including the radiator, do not corrode. Internal corrosion can cause leakage from the welsh plugs in the engine block and is particularly aggressive on aluminum engine blocks and cylinder heads which most modern cars use. Neglect of the engine coolant can cost a lot of money. Have it checked regularly to ensure the anti corrosion content of the coolant meets the manufacturer’s guidelines.
